Carkeek Park Engagement | Seattle, Washington | Eric + Erin

Erin + Eric | Carkeek Park Seattle, Washington

//

A few weeks ago I worked with Erin and Eric for their engagement session at one of their special locations, Carkeek Park.

When scheduling out engagement sessions, I ALWAYS ask my couples if there is a spot or place that resonates with them and/or their relationship. I feel it’s important to capture my couples in an area they find comfort in. Whether its a place, an activity, their favorite bar or cafe. Anything that allows them to be who they are during their session. These two have spent a lot of time at this park as it’s just down the street from their home. I had never been, so I loved that I was checking out a new location as well.

OF COURSE, with unpredictable Washington weather, we got rained out on our original date. And the only other time we could get it scheduled in time, was the next week in the middle of the afternoon.

Sometimes we can’t control our days, the light, or our schedules and I’ve constantly told couples that no matter what - it will turn out as it should. We had a lot of harsh light at 1:00 p.m. on a Friday. But I’ve personally taught myself a lot about light and I actually love shooting in harsh light when I need to.

This is EXACTLY why it’s SO important to book a photographer that knows these lighting situations. Your wedding day is unpredictable. We can’t choose the weather. Most of your portraits with your wedding parties, first look, etc can potentially happen in harsher afternoon light. But when you have someone who knows what they are doing - that light is the least of your worries.

These two loved their photos and the fun sunny light we got to play with. I’m excited to be with them again on their wedding day this summer. It’ll be perfect, full of laughter and hopefully some more fabulous sun!
